The Super Bowl was pretty depressing to watch, even though I was rooting for Seattle.  That was just ugly.  None of the commercials struck my fancy either.  Really, the only thing that saved the game for me was Joe Namath rocking that fur coat and throwing coins all over the place.

On top of that, Philip Seymour Hoffman died.  Celebrity deaths are a strange phenomenon because, in most cases, we didn't know the person, but we feel like we did, especially if we're a fan of them or their body of work.  This one hit me hard because not only did we lost an incredibly smart, interesting, talented actor, but we lost him to a drug overdose, which just feels like a waste.  Addiction is a complicated animal, and it leaves some of the best in its wake.

I know I'll be lingering the next time Boogie Nights or Almost Famous is on.  And if you haven't seen Synecdoche, New York, I highly recommend it as one of the most interesting ideas for a movie, that also includes a stellar performance by Hoffman.
