Currently Reading: The Bonfire of the Vanities

This has been on my reading list forever, but now I can't remember why.  I've only read one other Tom Wolfe novel, I Am Charlotte Simmons, and I remember now being very underwhelmed by it.  So far, Bonfire is a bit more enjoyable.  I'm just over 200 pages in and the story is becoming more cohesive and put together.  The setting is 1980's New York, with Wall Street booming (think excess a la American Psycho) plus racial tensions coming to a head within the city.  Even though the novel was written almost 30 years ago, much of its topics still ring true today.  Interesting to see how little we've changed.
